Lake CDA Swim

Nine of us swam in Lake CDA this morning (the lake temps were just under 52 degrees) and after the first couple of minutes it was not so bad. We swam a 1.2 mile out and back course and afterwards most of us felt that we were ready and able to jump back in and do another loop, even with the somewhat choppy waters.

I wore my neoprene cap under my swim cap, the top that was recommended earlier, and my newly purchased booties under my Blue Seventy booties. I was comfortable throughout the swim. The hands were a bit cold and I suspect the feet would be as well after a second loop but I felt it was nothing that I could not handle.

After this morning's swim I will no longer fret about the lake temps. It may not be pretty, for me at least, but it is definitely doable!

What's your (or anybody's) report on the booties? I can definitely feel a strong drag when I swim with them. ( haven't used them with a wetsuit yet, but I did strap them closed with rubber bands to keep water from flowing in.)

Great news! What a load off for you all...and for me as a spectator too! I don't want to see anyone suffer out there any more than they HAVE to!
Now hubby and I can have a couple chilly swims to get ready for Sharkfest the following weekend! Yea!

In response to Wedgie's question on the additional drag of the booties - I suppose there was some but it was hard to tell swimming in the choppy waters. I hope that drag was minimized with the booties tucked into the wetsuit.

I wore the 13 Ounce Thermo-X Short Sleeve Crew By: ONeill $59.95 that SW Tri Gal recommended.

For booties I wore the SEA ELITE 2MM NEOPRENE SOCKS that I had found at an online dive store and posted previously about under my Blue Seventy Booties that Greyhound originally posted on.

And of course I had my neoprene hat on under my swim cap which kept my ears warm.

I feel like one of those guys in Men's Health magazine where they are shown in an outdoorsy picture and then they go and describe every aspect and brand of their clothes in case us mortals would like to replecate the look.

That is some very good news. I feel more confident now..

Gosh I may even stop checking the water temp-livin' on the wild side!

I'm still checking the temperature -- and it looks like a little run of warm weather in CDA could give the ol' lake a boost. Nice warming on Sunday, and with 80 the forecast for CDA the next couple of days, we might actually get into the high 50s!

I'm sure my 89 degree OW swims here in Texas have fully prepared me for the experience . . . NOT.
